One of her most famous works listed everyone she had ever slept with, so you would hardly think of Tracey Emin as a shrinking violet. But there is one thing about the controversial artist which can now accurately be described as shrinking – her breasts.Miss Emin, 47, flew to the U.S. recently for an operation to reduce her ample bosom from a 34G to a 34DD.
She said: ‘If you haven’t had children and you’ve got really big breasts, your breasts get bigger and bigger. My neck ached, my back ached, and I just thought, enough is enough.’The artist, who was left unable to have children after having an operation for endometriosis, said she developed a large chest after starting to take the contraceptive Pill at 14. Since then her breasts ‘grew out of control’, she added.
Miss Emin’s newly svelte figure comes after a turbulent year in her personal life. Her father, Enver Emin, died in May last year and she also separated from her boyfriend of more than four years, Scott Douglas. And her new look coincides with the opening of her latest exhibition, Love Is What You Want, at the Hayward gallery in London.Miss Emin’s previous work includes the 1999 Turner Prize-shortlisted My Bed – an unmade bed – and a tent decorated with names, called Everyone I Have Ever Slept with 1963-1995.
